Rent a Solar Powered Electric Car from Hertz

Electric cars are the wave of the automotive future, and Hertz Car Rental Company is not about to get left behind!

Hertz Car Rental Company installs solar panels on U.S. facilities

The company recently announced that it will install 2.3 megawatts of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels at 16 of its car rental facilities in the United States in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania this year.  Not only will the solar panels generate clean electricity for the facilities themselves, but also for electric cars that will be offered for consumers.  In other words, you’ll be able to rent a solar powered electric car from Hertz soon!

Instead of gasoline, solar energy can power rental vehicles.  According to Paula Rivera, manager of Public Affairs at Hertz:

“Hertz is…committed to sustainable business practices. Investing in solar energy for Hertz facilities makes good business sense.”

The solar panels Hertz is installing are manufactured by a China-based company, SolarFun.  MartiferSolar, a Portugal-based company, will complete the design of the solar arrays and do the installations.  Hertz expects to receive its full return on investment within 5 years.

When it comes to electric cars, you can currently rent a Nissan LEAF or Chevy Volt in New York City.  In the near future, more EVs will be available for rental in areas including London, Washington D.C., and San Francisco.
