Solar Hot Water Heating Systems for AMCC Families in North Carolina

A new solar hot water program in North Carolina will be expanding to serve more military families in the area.  Atlantic Marine Corps Communities LLC (AMCC), is a partnership between the Department of the Navy and Actus Lend Lease through the Military Privatization Act which has developed nearly 3,500 acres with over 8,000 homes for military families.

The AMCC plans to extend solar hot water heating systems to 2200 homes within its communities by the end of next year.  Currently, solar thermal systems have been installed – or are in the process of installation – on 900 homes served by the AMCC.

Solar hot water systems use solar energy to heat water for household use

FLS Energy Inc. is helping the AMCC with the solar hot water expansion.  For the first 900 homes to receive solar thermal systems, about half are new construction and half have been retrofitted.  AMCC is making progress with the original solar hot water installations and has completed about 50% of the project.  The remaining 1,300 systems will be installed at Camp Lejeune, Tarawa Terrace and Watkins Village.

The AMCC communities are developed on nearly 3,500 acres and consist of over 8,000 homes.  With a LEED Gold rating at Camp Lejuene, extensive recycling and reuse program, and the largest solar thermal hot water project on a Marine Corps base, families will enjoy quality amenities with a reduced environmental impact.
